REFLECTIONS:
just fininshed chapter 2 notes and something went wrong and now I have a blank notes page!!!!!
chapter 2
Review mc exersise:
I missed all five of the questions. It helped when I seen the answers and put it in place of my answers. Then I got a better understanding of how i was supposed to choose the modes. I did realize that I needed to slow down and reread all the matireal carefully befor choosing my answer. Each time that I reread it, I seen that it made better sense to me and the answers did not feel out of place. There were a few words that i did not know the meanning of but I still answerd the questions. I found out that by doing this, I miss interperted the writing and did not fully understand the passage. I have learned that when i am reading, I need to reread and look up any words that I don't understand.
ex 1 :
3) I missed one on this exercise and realized that my answer is correct as well but the correct answer was more discriptive.
EX:2
I got all right!
EX 3:
I Only got one right on this one and could not figure out the correct way to type in my answers. One of the questions answers did not make sense to me even after I got it wrong and corrected it. I thought that the passeges main idea was not about how almost no resturants served colored people. I still think that it was about how they had all the same laws as other places when it comes to segragation but a few thing were still co ed.
EX 4:
I got all correct.
· Chapter 3 notes:
on exercise 1: wow! This was an eye opener. Am I truly reading what is being presented to me? I think not! I realized that I assume way too much what the passage is about and draw my own conclusions to the story. after getting tons wrong on this first exercise, I have now realized that in order to truly know what I am reading I have to stop filling in the blanks and just read what is in front of me.
On exercise 3: I see that I got the first part right but when it came to getting the supporting sentence right that would prove my answer, I got it wrong. I realize that I need to choose the main sentence and not the "MI”. I was really impressed at my work on this chapter; after I worked at my mistakes I finally got that hang of it and breezed through the assignment extremely well.
Chapter 4 notes:
pp. 119-120
Chapter 4 helped me get an idea of how to start a paragraph. I seen that i was real scatterd with my writting and now I am able to write in a orderd fashion.
1.Because humans so often disappoint us in our lives, stories of heroic dogs affect us profoundly.
pp. 130-131
1. The chart shows a correlation between infant mortality in animals and captivity
2. Larger species of animals require a larger territory
3. The polar bear
pp. 150-150
5. It shows that the students with low grades did not attain any college degree.
6. The surprising statistic is that the students with high grades, A’s , did not go further to attain a college degree.
7. The data is from 1982 because they wanted to do a study on the time laps of ten years.
Chapter 5:
This week is over all ready? Wow! I have learned so much about my issue and all the people that need my help. We had a woman come into the office on Friday and it was so sobering to see the bruises and here about all the pain she was going through. What a reality shock this was for me and all the staff. I found myself stuck and unable to find any words to say to her to comfort her and make all her fears go away. She was beaten badly by her boyfriend and any one could see the helplessness in her eyes. I have never been in that situation before and I hope that next time I see someone like that that I can find some words to say to them and not freeze up like I did. I see that our home work is getting better to understand and I feel so silly for stressing out about this class so much. I find myself reading every day writings and analyzing it like we do in this class and boy oh boy it makes life so much easier. I have always had a hard time understanding my scriptures and I’m finding that I am more able to separate the paragraph and find true meaning to them. This makes one of my classes at church so much easier. I have found that in chapter five, I was not getting any answers correct. I got confused with deductive and inductive patters of organization. i had to write most of my answers over and over and then use the correct answer to get 100%. After finishing all thins I still feel that i need more practice.
chapter 6 notes:
I have now completed my service work and it felt amazing to be able to spend my time helping these girls recover from their situations. I have enjoyed this week a lot and thought that reaching back to elementary school and working with metaphors, and similes. This reminded me how to be more creative when I am writing. I’m my opinion, using metaphors and similes really bring out the color in the work we are writing. I personally find that when I do write, I tend to use words that I think are creative but, they don’t fit the mood or the topic. In chapter 6 it shows up a few ideas on what words we should use and not use. This was a huge help because I tend to ver. off the subject when I am choosing creative words to bring out the spice in my papers. So now I have realized that I need to do more research on the meanings of words before use them. I also learned that I had a simile and metaphor mixed up. When I am trying to create a simile when writing I find that I am always stuck on choosing the describing word. For instance, the river was huge like…? This is where I get in trouble and find myself thinking of all the words that would go in the blank. I do honestly think that after chapter 6, I just may be able to put the words together better without much thought and contemplation.

chap 9 notes:
This chapter was a fun chapter for me. Last week was a stressful one and I felt that I possibly could not retain any more information. I did enjoy looking at project hope and all the past assignments that have been submitted. This gave me many great ideas for my project which I am currently amazed by the information that I am retaining from the interview that I gave on Friday. While doing my power points, I did come across a few road blocks with the assignment on exercise 1 on chapter 9, I would continually get appeal to authority and testimonial mixed up. After reading more from Spears,” (356) testimonial appeal is a staple of television and magazine advertisements, in which famous people-actors, athletes, celebrities, of other notable figures-are paid enormous sums of money to endorse a particular product.” Reading this again helped me tell the difference between the two especially when I seen that appeal to authority was it,” allows the claim to rest solely on the fact that a supposed authority is behind it (Spears 349).” Slippery slope fallacy was difficult for me to remember because it was a little like the Non sequitur fallacies. I had to really try hard to get the concept of the two in order to pass the exercises 1-3 on chapter 9. I do know that I needed to print out the homework and the correct answers as a handy guide for me when I am identifying future passages
chap 10 notes:This week was a busy one for me. I spent a lot of time on the web finding photos for my power point presentation on project hope. I read articles and many stories about young teen moms and what they have to face on a daily basis. I found that this project was a very time consuming and emotional assignment. I truly had no idea about the statistics of young teen moms. I also found out that there is a connection to teen moms and domestic violence. This is the issue that I have chosen to do my assignments on and now that I have researched more on the issue (domestic violence and teen pregnancy) and found a connection, I am extremely saddened by the correlation between the two.
I did find one of our assignments very enlightening. When I was analyzing speeches by famous people I found one of the most famous ones that I had forgot about. Then I was prompted to do some research and found another one that shows the first speech was made with intent to falsify information. This to me was a gold mine. The chapters eight and nine are very resourceful. I was able to analyze different speeches and one video while using critical reading. I also found that some of the speeches that I read were emotional appeals. They were made by famous people so I automatically thought that they had to be true. (Appeal to authority) . “a writer who uses the appeal to authority allows the claim to rest solely on the fact that a supposed authority is behind it.”(Spears 349) Knowing this helped me determine that my Clinton was indeed intentionally misleading us to protect himself.
